by Geoff Mowery

"I studied art at the creative Choinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, but it was the knowledge of a friend of mine from the Philadelphia Academy that allowed me to master the egg tempera medium."

Egg tempera is a mixture of natural color pigments and egg yolk, which results in a tough, permanent finish.

Egg tempera is one of the oldest and most durable mediums known to man, having been used in caves and temples since before the birth of Christ.

The gessoed board is critical to the effect of egg tempera. It has marble dust in it, which reflects light to create a glow.
